People with high Emotional intelligence (EQ) are able to deal with those who attack, bait or provoke them by using patience, discipline and good sense to respond in a deliberate fashion rather than react impulsively. They are able to delay their need to say something back in order to decide what they should say or do and do it with a clear head. They are able to keep their perspective and self-control, and to use good listening and compassion/empathy to defuse situations.
Reflect on these key points:
- 1One advantage of being a boss with good emotional intelligence is that the high level of control leads to a low drama work place.
- 2When drama is low, productivity tends to be high and people who are top performers prefer to work in these environments, and are apt to stay once there.
- 3Emotionally aware people use empathy and compassion to diffuse difficult situations and get to the real issue behind the issue.
“People with emotional intelligence have the learned capacity to process a situation about to go south, get perspective, listen to someone they disagree with without judgment, and hold back from reacting head on.”
