Sometimes, honest misunderstandings can arise between employers and employees that, if not managed correctly, can make things less pleasant for all involved, such as the case of an employee who, after turning down a promotion to assistant manager several times, accepted it with the caveat that they might leave to return to school, only for the employer to subsequently hire a brand new employee to fill that role instead. It is paramount that the employee decide whether they really want to move to a managerial-type position in the future, and to determine what their long term plans are, and for both sides to ensure that the misunderstanding does not impact the new employee’s work.
