Every team will invariably include several distinct roles, with distinct patterns of behavior towards you and what you’re trying to do. Roles are not the same as people — individual people may fill more than one role depending on specific circumstances. You need “cheerleaders” to boost morale, and subject expert “teachers” to provide specific knowledge and insight. Helpers will try their best to assist you, while naysayers raise objections, complaints and negative comments, and watchers just wait to see what happens. Even these last two roles can have their place, though — they’re good for making sure you don’t get caught by surprise by problems or negative feedback on the final product.
