Employee turnover is costly and inefficient, and many organizations are devoting more attention to holding onto their employees. However, retention is not just the responsibility of HR, even though it is frequently discussed in that context. Although HR has a role to play, all elements of the company, especially managers, are important. Managers play a huge role in how employees feel about staying or leaving, as do employee interactions with customers and their ability to solve customer problems. Additionally, it is important to gather as much information as possible from both those who stay and those who leave on what drove that decision.
