Whoever said it’s all downhill from here may not have meant the morning specifically, but for many people this is true. Seizing the morning puts our feet on the right path and helps us get what we want out of the day, the same way that starting off poorly makes us feel like the day is already wasted and we may as well start over. There are lots of small rituals that can edge your morning over into the win zone. Getting a chore done, not perfectly, but well enough so it’s validly done will make you feel golden and good to go. Make a point of moving, again not necessarily perfectly. You don’t have to execute some intricate regime. Pick a motion and do it a few times and call it done. Another win. Racking up these little wins will put you in a great frame of mind. Other great ways to center yourself in the AM, journal, meditate, spend some time thinking creatively and imagining all you can do. And for the moment of truth , try an ice cold shower to get your brain and body fully awake and raring to go.
Reflect on these key points:
- 1To get ahead in life you need to set yourself up for a life of proactivity, rather than reactivity.
- 2The best way to get a good handle on your day is to start strong in the morning.
- 3A great way to start off the day with a bang is to make your bed, thereby giving yourself a small easy win.
“Your calmer behavior will be noticed and modelled by your children. They will see your interest in self development and growth, and this will become a new “normal” for them.”
