We have seen some examples of gorgeous dental offices lately: High-tech practices with lovely decor, colors, textures and fabulous art. The ideal office is designed to create not only a pleasant and efficient work environment for its employees, it also is designed to help patients to feel at ease, making for a pleasant dentist experience. Often the employee lounges are set up like a kitchen with the conveniences of a home allowing workers to sit back, relax and have a comfortable break. There is one thing we’ve noticed the absence of in the break room: employee posters that are required by federal and state laws. These posters are there to keep your workplace safe and notify your employees of their rights. They should be updated, keeping current all laws that affect those who are in the workforce. On our office visit consultations, we find the posters are often hidden behind a cabinets or a closet door, and sometimes the posters do not exist at all. When we ask employees to show us where they are, they don’t even know what we’re talking about! I understand you don’t want to take away from the beauty of the break room, but these posters are important. They should be a part of your orientation process for every new hire. Your employees need to know where they are and understand what they say. Even if you are a small office with only two or three employees, we recommend you post your State and Federal Employment Law Posters. Most importantly, this action shows your employees you care. Since laws vary state to state, make sure you check what is required for your business.
