Most Popular Facebook Posts of 2015

by Katie Devereaux

When you have a blog, one of the most important tasks is making sure you’re connecting with your audience. In order to do this, you have to determine what it is your readers most want to learn, what is most interesting to them. One way we can track that is by figuring out our most popular posts on our Dental Temps Professional Services Facebook Page and finding similar articles and blogs to share with those who follow us. Now that we have an entire year behind us, we decided to go through all of our posts from last year to see what you guys liked the most.

So, here it is, folks! Our top three most liked posts of 2015:

The third most popular was “Dental Dog Calms Young Patients,” which is about a certified therapy dog named Bailey. Bailey, a 7-year-old Goldendoodle, is from Fond du Lac, WI, and works at Boudry Dentistry with his owner, dentist Tammy Boudry. Boudry said Bailey calms patients and is often requested by parents to sit next to their children when they are in her chair. In order to legal allow Bailey into the office, which opened in May 2014, Boudry needed the proper licensing and approval from the Wisconsin Dental Association. According to the fdlreporter.com article, Bailey may be the first dentist office therapy dog. “They had to write an insurance policy just for me,” she said in the article. “There are lots of extra precautions and rules I follow to maintain a clean and safe environment.”

The second most popular article was “I was 26 and Healthy. Here’s How a Routine Dentist Visit Saved My Life,” written from a first-person perspective by Brooke Vitense for Mind Body Green. Vitense writes that she was a healthy college student engaged to be married when she notices white spots on the underside of her tongue when brushing one day. A few months later, she went to her routine dentist appointment, and her dentist suggested they be biopsied. Two weeks later she got the call that changed her life. The spots were precancerous. After oral surgery, she found out the spots were cancerous, and she needed more surgery. The article chronicles her journey into oral cancer and warns that anyone could be at risk, which is why routine dental appointments are so important.

The first most popular post on our Facebook page was the Business Insider article “The 27 jobs that are most damaging to your health.” Though occupations in the dental field have been topping the best jobs lists for the last several years, Business Insider names dentists, dental surgeons and dental assistants as the number one most damaging job to your health. Dental professions receive the highest percentages in the three categories used to measure health-damaging jobs: exposure to contaminants, exposure to disease and infections, and time spent sitting. These jobs scored an 84 percent for exposure to contaminants, a 75 percent for exposure to disease and infections, and a 67 percent for time spent sitting. Yikes!

We promise that we will continue to check up on what you guys are reading every now and again and we’ll make sure we’re always bringing you the top industry news as well as interesting feature articles for you to enjoy. Happy 2016 everyone!
