Many dental hygienists from around the world wonder what opportunities they have for different career opportunities. So the American Dental Hygienists’ Association held a conference called Changing World Conference. This conference included information for different types of jobs in public health, corporate positions, education, and entrepreneurship.
One of the main reasons dental hygienists’ are seeking to find new opportunities is a decline in the average net income. There are several reasons that might affect income, like the influx of new hygiene graduates, people staying in the work force for a longer period of time, and the recession leading to less people being able to pay for dental care.
A conference panel member, Tammi Byrd, believes that job growth will come from the public health sector and other alternative settings, rather than dental offices. The many talented dental hygienists will have to figure all this out and find a new way.
