Kim Scott has made it her mission to help make happier, healthier workplaces. Part of her recipe is for “radical candor” with guidance, both positive and negative, that can help employees be better. Scott emphasizes that good guidance comes from a mix of directness and genuine concern and caring. A person who isn’t caring will come off as a jerk at best and downright abusive at worst, while a person who isn’t direct may not be able to make people listen to and understand their guidance.
