As getting good and qualified help becomes more of an issue, it becomes key for management to focus on employee retention. Just as its harder to get a new client then it is to keep an old one, it’s far easier to work at keeping a valuable worker then it is to start over from scratch. To that end, it’s important to keep employees engaged. A committed workforce is a positive asset. It means that the employees feel a sense of dedication to their job, a pride in being affiliated with the company they work for. However, while commitment is useful, laudable and positive, engagement goes further. An engaged employee stays not just because they appreciate the company and believe in the work they are doing. They also feel that what they do,is appreciated and they themselves are a valuable commodity that would be missed were they to leave. This is the sort of engagement that truly binds employees to a job, because ultimately it has become more than a job.
